Locos por Juana & Friends11pm 21+ $10 cover Locos Por Juana is a 2x Grammy Nominated, bilingual Jam-Band formed in Miami, FL in the year 2000 most notably recognized by their electrifying dynamism onstage and their unique take of Afro-Caribbean Music. The present lineup consists of vocalist Itagui Correa, guitarist Mark Kondrat, and drummer Javier Delgado which form the nucleus of the group, joined by trombonist Lasim Richards and percussionist Carlos Palmet, and at times as many as 5-7 guest musicians may join the band onstage. Locos Por Juana's sound is a distinct one, drawing from the members' diverse backgrounds. The heart and soul of their hybrid style emanates from Colombia. Itagui and Javier were born in Colombia, and Mark is Miami-born of Colombian descent. As such, they incorporate the beloved sounds of their heritage and their upbringing, like Cumbia, Champeta and Afro-Colombian rhythms such as Mapale and Chande, reshaping them, breathing a new life into them, and giving them an altogether new identity. Also, Integral to Locos Por Juana's style is the musical influence of Reggae, Dancehall and Ragga from Miami and the Caribbean; and Hip-Hop, Rock and Funk from the US. Locos por Juana released their first two albums with idependant Salsa Label, Musical Productions (MP) Records. The first album, self-titlted, was released in 2003 and nominated to Los Premios Nuestros for, Best Urban Album. ArtOfficial with special guests Backpack JAX21+ Doors: 9PM No cover before 11PM/$10 after ARTOFFICIAL http://www.ArtOfficialMusic.net/ https://www.facebook.com/artofficialmusic?fref=ts ArtOfficial thrives on originality. It’s the quiet thrum that runs beneath every track and performance like a current, igniting and electrifying their sound. They tread their own path, eschewing the simple magic of beat machines and samples for the irreplaceable warmth of organic instrumentation, and a meticulous care for crafting music with soul. Formed from the remnants of two very different bands in Miami in 2007, ArtOfficial’s one-of-a-kind sound is as inherently ingrained in the group’s core as a trait buried in genetic code. Since their inception, they’ve been compared to groups like Soulive and The Roots, but theirs is a different brew–a seamless marriage of unyielding, unapologetic urban poetry with an unflinching array of jazz melodies that results in some of the most uniquely crafted and sincere hip-hop you’re likely to find–not just in Miami–anywhere. The six-piece band dropped their indie debut, the Stranger EP, in 2007, and followed it in 2008 with a well-received sophomore effort in Fist Fights & Foot Races, which was released on Goon Trax records in Japan. They made the album available in the U.S. in December of 2010, but by then their fans had already been clamoring for more ArtOfficial. So earlier that year, AO answered the call, giving away their mixtape The Payback online. Both The Payback and Fist Fights were widely shared on the Internet. Miami-based ArtOfficial are a hip-hop ensemble with jazz and funk influences featuring vocalists Newsense and Logics, Danny Perez on keys, Ralf Valencia on bass and Keith Cooper on the saxophone. BACKPACK JAX http://backpackjax.net/ https://www.facebook.com/BackpackJax Al Green & Lauryn Hill’s lovechild, Backpack Jax are an international Hip Hop group based in France. Children of political refugees, Boogie Monsta (Iraqi Frenchman) & Mauikai (Cuban American) are 80’s babies from opposite sides of the planet who were born & bred on golden era Hip Hop music like A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes and The Fugees, and cite numerous diverse inspirations, that include some of music’s greats like Stevie Wonder and Jazz legends Miles Davis and Nina Simone. Joining forces in Western France, this multi-cultural duo first set things off in 2009. Their love of cinema and performance found them marrying the two elements on stage, in the same way they’d married the analog and digital universes in their recording process. Gracing stages throughout Europe and the US, their unique blend of soulful Hip Hop and melodically driven jazz, garnered the attention of critics and audiences alike. Playing to a sold out crowd at the 33rd edition of the Trans Musicales de Rennes Festival at La Cité, selected for the 2012 edition of Printemps de Bourges Festival and two unforgettable performances by the pair at award-winning artists, Hocus Pocus’ Carte Blanche for the inauguration of La Fabrique at Stereolux (France), Backpack Jax, who released their debut EP, “Remember the Future”, October 4th, 2011 on indie imprint, Is That Jazz ? Records / Believe Digital, are bringing their fan base, old and new, an original experience, overflowing with energy & above all, sincerity for music lovers of all ages & social walks of life. Accompanied by their band, Backpack Jax’s dynamic energy and hypnotic music has captivated the attention of Eric Bellamy at Yuma Productions, who has signed the blushing artists to an exclusive contract and is currently preparing their freshman European tour. -

This week, we've got FREDDY TODD in all the way from Detroit, with another act TBA! $5 before 10PM and in advance/ $10 after! Extra $5 charge at the door for under-21! Also featuring residents AFRO MONK and SKINNY HENDRIX! UPCOMING MASSIVE WEDNESDAY SCHEDULE: 5/15: Skytree/Milky http://goo.gl/ZaZR4 5/22: Sir Charles/Somejerk http://goo.gl/TbTm2 7/17: Archnemesis/Bombassic http://goo.gl/rGWvm FREDDY TODD www.freddytodd.com www.soundcloud.com/freddytodd Words will inevitably fail to properly describe Freddy Todd. Genre-busting could be an understatement. You can't pin him down with lexicon like lazer-bass and glitch-funk; these phrases fall way short of capturing the expressiveness, fearlessness, and space-traveling qualities of his music. Hearing his music is akin to being abducted by an extra-terrestrial cruise liner where everyone is tripping on space acid. And if you are lucky enough to witness him produce, you'll see that he fittingly looks just like the captain of said space cruiser, both hands intently gripping his electronics like the instrument panel on the flight deck. Based out of Detroit, Freddy Todd is truly a master of his craft not only in the studio but on stages across the globe. Without any pre-recorded sets, Freddy has the skills and the audacity to perform on the fly mixes of 100% original material tailored to his specific audience, mood, and venue each night, be it a theater in northern California, a club in the back alleys of Detroit, or an outdoor festival in the bush off the eastern coast of Australia (occasionally on special nights with his live drummer, ill.so.naj). His earth shattering, meticulously programmed beats and rhythms, his lazer crunk, funky psychedelic bass and sound design, and his brain tingling, intelligently soul-soaked synths, melodies, and field-recorded samples are sure to shake your consciousness as they blast through airwaves out of top notch sound systems across the universe. PHANTASMAN www.phantasman.com www.soundcloud.com The Miami-born Phantasman produces haunting sounds and bassy beats, generating eclectic dark electronic music. Having backgrounds in various rock genres, he's found his suiting niche in witch house music, creating original textures from ghostly to gnarly. His latest album, The Manifold, and his other tracks are up for free download on his website. -

Spam & The Lee Boys Live9PM / 21+ Pre-sale is $10 Door is $15 Get your tickets today! SPAM https://www.facebook.com/spamallstars?fref=ts http://www.spamallstars.com/ DJ Le Spam & Spam Allstars blend improvisational electronic elements and turntables with latin, funk, hip hop and dub to create what they call an electronic descarga. It’s not a known genre. It’s hard to describe. It attracts many types of people. But as they look out and see people dancing salsa, next to break-dancers, and festival-goers driving for hours to catch a show -- they know something very special is going on. Spam Allstars were formed by Andrew Yeomanson, a/k/a DJ Le Spam, who was raised in Toronto, Bogota and London, and has called Miami home since 1993. He got his start by playing guitar in Haitian band Lavalas, and recording and touring with Miami based artist Nil Lara. Along the way he added to his vinyl collection, and when off the road he would DJ locally. These DJ gigs evolved into collaborations with live musicians, performing on an internet radio show, recording in his home studio, and the first of many residencies combining his samplers & DJ skills with a live band. In 2002, Spam Allstars began a weekly residency at Hoy Como Ayer in Little Havana, which continues today. In 2003 they started monthly residencies in New York City, Gainesville, Tampa, Atlanta, and New Orleans, and playing nationally wherever people would host them. Today they perform 200+ shows, and average 56,000 miles each year. They still do the weekly in Little Havana, and have monthlies in Miami and Miami Beach. Spam Allstars are proud to have five independent releases - Electrodomesticos/2007; Contra Los Roboticos Mutantes/2004; Latin Grammy nominated Fuacata Live!/2002; Pigs in Space/2000; and Pork Scratchings/1999; and three vinyl releases - vinyl #1, vinyl #2, and vinyl #3- on their own Spamusica Records label. Their most recent release was a compilation for World Music Network (owners of the Rough Guide) - Introducing Spam Allstars/2008. Spam Allstars are Andrew Yeomanson/DJ Le Spam (turntables, samplers, guitar, bass), Tomas Diaz (timbales, vox), AJ Hill (saxes, vox), Mercedes Abal (flute, vox), Chad Bernstein (trombone, vox), Jose Elias (guitars/tres), Ted Zimmerman (trumpet), Lazaro Alfonso (congas), Adam Zimmon (guitars), & Steve Welsh (saxes). THE LEE BOYS www.leeboys.com www.myspace.com/leeboys www.facebook.com/theleeboys www.twitter.com/theleeboys The Lee Boys are one of America’s finest African-American sacred steel ensembles. This family group consists of three brothers, Alvin Lee (guitar), Derrick Lee and Keith Lee (vocals) along with their three nephews, Roosevelt Collier (pedal steel guitar), Alvin Cordy Jr. (7-string bass) and Earl Walker (drums). Each member began making music at the ages of 7 and 8 in the House of God church they attended in Perrine, FL. Here they underwent a rigorous course of training in a variety of musical instruments, including lap and pedal steel guitars. Born and raised in Miami, each of The Lee Boys grew up in the church where their father and grandfather, Rev. Robert E. Lee, was the pastor and a steel player himself. “Sacred steel” is a type of music described as an inspired, unique form of Gospel music with a hard-driving, blues-based beat. The musical genre is rooted in Gospel, but infused with rhythm and blues, jazz, rock, funk, hip-hop, country and ideas from other nations. Influenced by the Hawaiian steel guitar fad of the 1930’s, brothers Willie and Troman Eason brought the electric lap steel guitar into the worship services of the House of God church in Jacksonville, FL. The Pentecostal congregation embraced the soulful sound, and over time this unique sound became the hallmark of the church. The pedal steel guitar was added to the mix and soon became the central instrument. The Lee Boys are part of the fourth generation of musicians in this faith. This music form was totally unknown to the world outside the church until the mid 1990’s, when folklorist Robert Stone attended House of God services and recorded the music, as well as its history, contributing the name “sacred steel.” A series of compilations featuring artists such as Aubrey Ghent, Calvin Cooke and the Campbell Brothers, as well as the late Glenn Lee followed on legendary roots label Arhoolie Records, for whom The Lee Boys also record. When The Lee Boys bring their joyous spiritual sound to the stage, audiences instantly recognize that this is not “sitting and listening” music: dancing, shouting out, and having fun are considered essential parts of their tradition. Founder and bandleader Alvin Lee explains “The inspiration and feeling that comes along with our music is the reason that people feel good. It is like the new music on the block and it’s just getting ready to explode!” It’s mostly original material, with a few standards and hymns the group “blueses up a little.” Audiences often dance, shout out, and always have a great time. In 2008-09 alone they performed for more than 250,000 music fans at festivals throughout the United States. In the process, their unique sound has attracted musical artists such as Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band, The Black Crowes, Los Lobos, Michelle Shocked, Gov’t Mule, Derek Trucks Band w/ Susan Tedeschi, The North Mississippi Allstars, Hill Country Revue, Umphrey’s McGee, Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, Oteil & Kofi Burbridge, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Toubab Krewe, Victor Wooten, The Del McCoury Band and The Travelin' McCourys– all of whom have played with the Lee Boys and/or invited them to tour with them. The press has caught on as well, as evidenced by the USA Today review of their set at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in May 2008: “The Lee Boys, from Miami, rocked the blues tent with their rollicking 'You've Got to Move.' The song started slow and low but steadily picked up pace, taking on the feel and sound of a runaway train. As guitarist Roosevelt Collier plucked at his pedal steel guitar, an electric guitar mounted on a stand and played from a sitting position, audience members danced in the aisles, jumped up and down and waved their arms to the mounting melody.” As well in March 2009, Billboard Magazine wrote: “The band's dexterity with multiple genres is its strongest point; it combines folk, soul, funk, blues, country and gospel into upbeat, steel guitar-led performances that can't help but inspire secular and sacred revelry.” These engaging artists work well in a variety of venues ranging from intimate club settings to performing arts centers to large festival stages. Their music attracts audiences from the jamband, folk, blues and Gospel worlds. They’ve performed throughout the United States, Canada and Europe and will continue influencing audiences worldwide with their “sacred steel”. Their tour calendar includes over 100 major festival performances, including headline stops at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Memphis in May, Bonnaroo, High Sierra, Austin City Limits, Philadelphia Folk Festivals, MerleFest, DelFest, Wanee and All Good Festival. In December, 2008, the band debuted on national television with a rousing performance on NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien that had the host jumping out of his chair and raving about the band. The Lee Boys have been in the studio with The Travelin’ McCourys completing a joint album entitled “Meetin' In The Middle” which illustrates their amazing bluegrass/sacred steel festival shows. The 6 song EP debuted at MerleFest 2010 and is now available. -
